Prince overtakes alien love. Phoonk and Paathshaala to follow

After a long slate of small or dull releases in the IPL season, this Friday finally saw comparatively bigger releases. Vivek Oberoi’s action thriller Prince opened to mixed reviews but fetched a good opening. The slick action, cinematography and three sexy beauties pulled in audiences in good numbers and the collections showed a steady rise over the weekend. The business is better in single screens as compared to multiplexes.
The Aladin couple Riteish Deshmukh and Jacqueline Fernandez’s second film Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai seems to have the same fate as the first. The film opened to poor reviews and even poor collections. Saturday was slightly better than Sunday but overall the business is bad.
Aparna Sen’s The Japanese Wife starring Rahul Bose, Raima Sen, Moushmi Chatterjee and Japanese actress Chigasu Takaku catered to the niche audiences inclined towards artistic cinema.

The coming week sees three releases. Ahmed Khan produced Paathshaala stars Shahid Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Ayesha Takia and takes a look at the educational system. The film also stars a string of prominent child artists but very few film with a children theme meet with a positive fate at box-office like Taare Zameen Par. So let’s wait and watch if this one even comes close to it.
The second release is Ram Gopal Varma’s sequel to his last horror hit Phoonk 2 , directed by Milind Gadagkar, the writer of the original. Whether it will be as big hit as the predecessor is to be seen.
The third release is a relatively less known film titled Muskurake Dekh Zara with all newcomers and the only identifiable name on its credit list is writer Anurag Kashyup.
